Inaugural Year in Review

Feb. 1, 2001

Year 2000... The first year of the Alliance of Fictional Fighting is history. Even with the absence of title fights and even rankings for said title fights by the three governing entities, the first year produced some good match-ups and several fighters from all weight divisions have begun to stake their claims for possible dominance. A look at the 5 divisions follows...

Heavyweights

With 280 members participating, this division is shaping up to be a good one. Slugger Winston Crevette from North Korea currently sits atop the list with a record of 8-0-0 with all wins coming by knockout, (2 of which were of the technical variety). As of February 1st, 2001 there are 20 fighters without a loss. The current top 5...

  1. Winston Crevette, North Korea
  2. Julian Gamble, USA
  3. Kelly Carter, USA
  4. Jerome Golard, France
  5. Hakku Tumar, Samoa
Opinions on this division...Many believe, at this stage, Julian Gamble (#2) and defensive specialist Junior LaBlanc (#14) from Canada are definite contenders when title time comes around. Yet to make their debuts, Van Dorsey and John Thomas, are also expected to be in the mix as well. A couple ring battles of note in 2000 were:
  • Jerome Golard (#4) SD Anthony Thomas (#13) 115-113 | 115-113 | 113-114
  • Sven Lindholm KO with 1 punch over Kalola Umaga on June 25th in Germany. Both boxers were undefeated in 3 fights. Lindholm was said to be severely under-trained for this bout.

Light Heavyweights

186 boxers total. Chad O'Connor of the United States currently holds the number 1 spot in this division. A total of 9 boxers have won all of their fights by knockout without suffering a loss. The top 5 stands...

  1. Chad O'Connor, USA
  2. Svein Lancer, Norway
  3. Ryan Dexter, UK
  4. Michael Pressley, Australia
  5. Tormond Ferguson, Scotland

Opinions of this division...Experts keep noting Gordon McKenzie, Ryan Dexter, and Chad O'Connor as being the ones to watch. Making his debut soon is Arnold Vanderliije who is expected to do well. Fights of interest:

  • Piotr Kalecki KO9 Matthieu Ouimette in Atlantic City, June. Both were 3-0-0 at the time of the match.
  • Anlun Quigley 5-1-0 TKO1 Ulf Jurgensen 3-1-2 in December.

Middleweights

200 members with top spot currently belonging to Jesus Enamorado 8-0-0(6) of Cuba. Many contend that Jesus is "nothing special" but can hold is own in this weight class. He may have to hold his own against some of the rest of the top 5...

  1. Jesus Enamorado, Cuba
  2. Levi Floresca, USA
  3. Eyvaz Borcali, Azerbaijan
  4. Julio Alvares, Cuba
  5. Bjorn Bjoenkaer, Norway

Opinions...Max Jones of the Unites States is expected to make waves in this division, along with Enamorado, Guillermo Carriles of Panama, and Julio Alvares. Year 2000 fights of note...

  • Levi Floresca vs Gerard McArena ended at 2:39 into the 1st round with Levi getting the KO. July in Bangkok.

Welterweights

Division has 164 boxers with many possible favorites. Many have directed their attention at Boon-Nam Panomyaong, Colton Orr, and Robert Drake to be top fighters. Top 5 currently are...

  1. Robert Drake, Australia
  2. Colton Orr, Canada
  3. Alexandros Economakis, Greece
  4. Jerald Kunshier, USA
  5. Liam Maghee, Australia

Mentioned before, Panomyaong (#15) is expected to be dominant. However, he is currently 6-2-0 with no knockouts and critics claim that even though the Thailand native has quick hands, his punching power is lacking in a big way. Some fights of note in the division...

  • Alexandros Economakis KO8 Dennis Kretchkov (#24) in Atlantic City 9-13-00.
  • Robert Drake vs Boon-Nam Panomyaong in Shreveport, LA in September was one of the best early match-ups that the AFF had for year 2000. The result was a UD for Drake (116-111 | 116-111 | 117-110). A rematch will most likely take place in the future.
